C-Mac says Juan Soto isn't signing an extension with Yankees: 'He hired Scott Boras for a reason'

C-Mac was disappointed that Juan Soto wasn’t introduced in person at Yankee Stadium, so he could see the team’s newest superstar put on the pinstriped jersey for the first time.

But he wasn’t disappointed by Soto’s comments about his future, even if they were clear, in C-Mac’s mind, that he is going to test free agency in 2024.

“I know Juan Soto may only be here a year, and boy did it sound like it at the press conference,” C-Mac said. “He also said something we’re not focused on, that seemed obvious at the time and is obvious. When asked about the extension, he said ‘They know who my agent is, they know who to call.’

“For all of you who thought there was a chance the Yankees could extend him, that he would want to stay, he is not even thinking about it. He hired Scott Boras for a reason…you are going to have to deal with Scott Boras, and Scott Boras is going to take him into free agency.”

C-Mac heard a calculated Soto at the press conference, making sure he wasn’t enamored with the pinstripes or that he was hoping to sign an extension in the upcoming season. That doesn’t mean he won’t be a Yankee for life, but it likely does mean that he will become a free agent.

“He went into that press conference being very careful to not say that he wants to be here,” C-Mac said. “They’re not stupid…but by no means do I think he has his mind on leaving when he says ‘while I’m here.’

“He isn’t signing an extension with the Yankees. End of story.”
