C-Mac believes the Yankees are in need of major changes as they sit below .500 with just a quarter of the season to go.
But he doesn’t want to hear about your childhood heroes becoming the next head coach, with no merit to their resume other than winning championships with Yankees teams of the past.
“If you’re a smart fan, and you think Brian Cashman is an idiot, and then you tell me you want every player on the 1998 Yankees to be on the coaching staff, then you need to shut up,” C-Mac said. “Stop it.
“‘Derek Jeter should be the GM, Don Mattingly should be the manager, we should have David Cone, Paul O’Neill, Tino Martinez.’ Stop! Why on earth would you think that would be successful. Paul O’Neill is a broadcaster. Because you loved them?”
C-Mac says he has heard enough already about former fan favorites taking on leadership roles with the current team despite no signs of coaching prowess. So, instead of hoping for your favorite players to get jobs in the organization, how about hoping for the most qualified?
“Don Mattingly had a chance to be a manager…he’s already proven he’s average to below average at best,” C-Mac said. “I love Don Mattingly as a player…but he’s not someone I’m dying to make the manager of my baseball team. Pail O’Neill as hitting coach? The guy barely wants to leave Cincinnati!
“You want to recreate that team so bad that you want to bring them all back on the coaching staff. It doesn’t work that way.”
