C-Mac: What these Yankees can learn from Rangers, Knicks disappointments
With the Knicks and Rangers both coming up short of their goals in the playoffs, C-Mac says there is a lesson the Yankees can take away from the local basketball and hockey teams.
With success comes expectation, and when you come up short, there is a feeling of disappointment, even if the road there felt magical.
“We know where it leads,” C-Mac said. “If you’re gonna be a Knicks team that makes us believe in you, overcoming the Randle injury and Mitchell Robinson, and get to a series against an underdog sixth seed when you worked up to a two seed, and you lose that series, I don’t care why. I’m disappointed.
“If you’re gonna be the best team in the NHL, and Artemi Panarin is gonna have 100 points, and Alexis Lafreniere is gonna look like a top pick, and you bring in a head coach that changed everything…and then when they get to a series against the Panthers, you just go ‘What are you gonna do? Panarin needs space.’”
The Knicks were decimated by injuries, but C-Mac still considered the loss to the Pacers a failure given they were up 3-2 in the series and had a game seven at home. The Rangers had home ice as the top seed in the conference final and couldn’t get it back to MSG for a game seven. So, as the Yankees roll through what has been a brilliant season so far, the expectations will be sky high come October, and there won’t be room for excuses.
“I’ll be the first to tell you. This Yankee season is different,” C-Mac said. “Soto and Judge are making you think of Gehrig and Ruth. The pitching staff without Gerrit Cole, the bullpen with Clay Holmes, Alex Verdugo is a real left fielder…Stanton has stayed healthy…but ultimately…they don’t get the benefit of the doubt.”
