C-Mac: Yankee fans 'shouldn't be this vile' after years of consistent competitiveness

The Yankees are stumbling through their worst season in nearly three decades, and it provides some perspective on how consistently competitive the team has been over the years.

It took a disastrous season to take in a magnitude of the franchise’s run of competitiveness, as they may now be on their way to their first sub-.500 season since 1992.

C-Mac understands the level of frustration this season, given the team is on its way to playing meaningless baseball with 40 games still to do, but overall, the fanbase’s reaction to the franchise in recent years doesn’t match up with the level of success the team has had.

“The fanbase is too angry. It’s too much,” C-Mac said. “I get frustrated, I get disappointed…I’m frustrated and disappointed with the Yankees, but they’ve won enough to not make me despise them. A year like this is gonna start to make me feel that way, and certainly if they have another year like this…but they’ve won enough that I haven’t had to deal with this. I don’t know what it’s like for my team to be .500 in August.

“That alone doesn’t make me happy, I’m not celebrating, but it’s enough where I don’t want their heads on a spike. I feel like Yankee fans have gotten really angry and vile. Now, this year, they’ve deserved it.”

Anger has grown as the team has gotten further away from their last championship, and while C-Mac understands that is the No. 1 goal, it shouldn’t completely wash away the team’s yearly playoff appearances before the disaster of 2023.

“It goes back further than this year…I don’t think it should be this vile,” C-Mac said. “I don’t think we should hate them this much. Because they do win. I don’t subscribe to the Ricky Bobby mentality, ‘if you’re not first, you’re last.’ I really don’t. Of course you have to win the World Series, but there are levels of bad. You feel the same getting swept in the ALCS as you do not making the playoffs and playing meaningless baseball?”
