C-Mac explains why Aaron Judge comes out looking good amid Juan Soto news

A caller wondered to Chris McMonigle if Juan Soto could have chosen the Mets in part because Aaron Judge flopped in October yet again, including dropping a routine fly ball that sparked the rally that eventually ended their season in game five of the World Series.

Judge is already generating frustration from the fanbase after that Fall Classic, but C-Mac says Judge actually comes out looking better in the eyes of Yankee fans after Soto chose the Mets over the Bronx.

“The one guy who comes out smelling sweet here is Judge,” C-Mac said. “The thought that Soto would not want to play with Judge because he’s so great, and the shadow is so big...elevates his prowess that even Juan Soto knows he can’t compete with Aaron Judge.

“Now, Aaron Judge is the guy who took less money to be a Yankee. It takes some of the stink off the World Series...I think a lot of fans are gonna turn and go’ Hey, he was offered $60 million more by the Padres, and he chose to stay, because he’s our guy.’”

Judge turned down San Diego’s offer of $400-plus million after the 2022 season, and made it clear that the Yankees is always where he wanted to be. With Soto bolting across town, C-Mac says Judge likely goes back to being universally beloved.

“This thing kind of helps us forget the World Series a bit,” C-Mac said.

“He’s the captain who took less money...I honestly think Judge gets a little bit of a palette cleanser of an offseason after fans were furious with him because of how the season ended.”
