The Yankees are suddenly fun again, thriving on youth, quickness, and athleticism in their recent five-game winning streak, which has helped slash their steep Wild Card deficit from 11 to 6.5 games.
C-Mac still doesn’t believe a playoff berth is in the cards for the 2023 Yanks, but he does have the same feel he did seven years ago in a season that served as the prelude to the most enjoyable Yankees season since their last World Series title.
“This reminds me of 2016,” C-Mac said. “This is the epitome of 2016, the exact same thing…the team starting playing better as the young kids game up. Gary Sanchez was the first Yankee to do this, the first rookie to do that…and we were all just enthralled by what he’s done. Now with [Jasson] Dominguez, the feel of the team is completely different. They’re playing the best baseball they’ve played all year long. It feels like 2016, which led to the most enjoyable season…the enjoyment of 2017.”
The Yankees are surging while the Rangers are falling fast in the Wild Card race, and some fans are starting to believe that a miraculous run is possible. C-Mac isn’t ready to go that far, but string together a few more wins, and you never know.
“Suddenly, you pair that up with what’s going on in Texas, and It just feels like maybe, maybe something special and miraculous is going to happen for the Yankees,” C-Mac said.
“I am the first one to tell you the season is dead. I don’t think it’s going to happen. But they have one more game against the Tigers, and then the Brewers come in. if they win the next four games, even I, and some of the most bitter, angry, Cashman and Boone hating Yankee fans would have to admit that if they can get this thing to four or three games before they take on the Blue Jays in two weeks…”
