C-Mac: Yankees have to trade Gleyber Torres this offseason

Gleyber Torres grounded into his sixth double play in as many games on Tuesday night, the most any Yankee has ever bounced into in a six-game span in franchise history.

The sixth GIDP was the last straw for C-Mac, who says the top of the Yankees’ offseason to-do list should include moving the two-time All-Star.

“There’s not a lot you can do except the one thing you have to…Gleyber Torres has to go,” C-Mac said. “I can’t watch it anymore. He’s one of the better hitters on the team, I like Gleyber, but I don’t know if he is a winning player. He makes big mistakes in big moments, he’s lost on the bases at times.

“Gleyber Torres last night, hitting into double play after double play, I can’t take it anymore.”

C-Mac didn’t want Torres moved at the deadline, mainly because, despite his deficiencies, has been one of the team’s most consistent hitters this season. But the offseason provides a wider net in terms of potential trade partners, and with other parts of the lineup tied down by bad contracts, C-Mac says Torres needs to be moved to get something back in return.

“Giancarlo Stanton can’t be moved. DJ LeMahieu is signed for six years. Anthony Rizzo is under contract next year,” C-Mac said. “The core of this team is going nowhere. You have to change what you can change, and that is Gleyber Torres.

“Bring up [Oswald] Peraza now, and let’s see if he can play second base. I can’t take it anymore.”
