C-Mac: Yankees 'digusting' lack of hustle and focus goes far beyond Alex Verdugo

Alex Verdugo was the main point of criticism in the Yankees’ latest loss, as he dogged it up the first base line on a groundout during Wednesday’s defeat at the hands of the Rangers.

While many ripped Verdugo for his lack of hustle, especially while Jasson Dominguez sits in the minors, C-Mac says the issues of not hustling and not being locked in go far beyond the struggling outfielder.

“It’s not just that. Let’s be fair, it’s everybody,” C-Mac said. “Judge getting a bad read on a ball that lands with a 95 percent catch probability. He’s been bad defensively. He’s been throwing the ball to the wrong cutoff man and the wrong base. And we know what Soto’s been. He’s lazy on a single that turns into a double and costs the Yankees a run. It’s every little thing.

“It’s been disgusting, and that’s what’s frustrating.”

The Yankees’ series loss in Texas was littered with a lack of fundamentals and missed opportunities, and C-Mac says it has to stop immediately, but it will take some more assertiveness from the manager to help expedite that process.

“Whether or not we think this team is as bad as they’re showing - and I don’t think that they are - but what they show you in games that are pivotal, as the Orioles continue to show you that they’re just as lousy as the Yankees,” C-Mac said. “The Yankees can’t take advantage. It’s more than just losing the game. It’s the way they’re playing. It’s the little things like Soto and Judge in the outfield…it’s every little thing about this team. Verdugo right now is going to get the brunt of it, and I understand why.

“The problem with Aaron Boone is the comfortability he’s shown this team…the level he will go to defend his players is obnoxious.”
