Gleyber Torres has been on an absolute tear in August, batting .340 with a 1.045 OPS after logging another multi-hit game, and smacking another home run, in Wednesday night’s win over the Tigers.
Torres is putting together a solid season, and C-Mac says his current hot streak is setting the Yankees up for the perfect opportunity to maximize his value and trade him in the offseason.
“Gleyber Torres is playing a brand of baseball that we have not seen from him since 2019…instead of changing my mind, I’m gonna lean into what I thought the whole time,” C-Mac said. “This is good for the Yankees that he is playing at this level, because it is upping his trade value.
“Watching this only makes me feel better about the return they will get…he is having the best month of his career, and at 27 years old, a year away from getting paid, you can get a nice little return for Gleyber Torres. I still think that’s the best way to go.”
Yankee fans have waited for years to see the Torres that broke into the majors in 2018, but after two All-Star campaigns to begin his big-league career, but it has only been disappointment until the second half of this season. C-Mac doesn’t want to risk returning to that disappointment in 2024, and the Yankees should instead capitalize on this hot streak by making a move this winter.
“What he has done this year has really been remarkable,” C-Mac said. “But if you look at the course of his career since 2019, he has not been able to do this consistently.”
