C-Mac: Gleyber Torres trade doesn't make sense, but Yankees may need to upgrade at first base
C-Mac is seeing trade proposals involving the Yankees where they could pluck a high-leverage reliever, like A’s closer Mason Miller, for Gleyber Torres this summer.
That led C-Mac to sit everyone down and explain, once again, why Torres isn’t going to be traded at the deadline.
“I just don’t understand how people feel this way…you have to put yourself in the other team’s shoes,” C-Mac said. “Oakland doesn’t spend money on anybody. Why on earth would they trade one of the sensations of this season in their closer Miller, who has years of control? Why would they trade him for half a season of Gleyber Torres? Think about it.”
Torres is still struggling at the plate and in the field, but C-Mac doesn’t see a trade where the Yanks ship out Torres and become a better team.
“Unless I’m getting a stud - if you’re telling me I’m getting an average middle reliever for Gleyber Torres, I’ll find one somewhere else for cheaper than Gleyber Torres,” C-Mac said.
“I’m struggling to think of a trade for Gleyber Torres that makes the Yankees better.”
On the other hand, the struggling Anthony Rizzo has become a problem, and C-Mac could see Brian Cashman looking to address that position within the next six weeks.
“I could see them benching Rizzo,” C-Mac said. “It’s progressed from ‘hey, come trade deadline, maybe we’ll see what’s out there at first base.’ Now, I think they’re going to trade for a first baseman.”
