C-Mac: Equal chance Yankees rotation can be 'great' or 'a disaster'

Aaron Boone told reporters when he arrived at spring training that the Yankees are “hell-bent on being a champion.”

C-Mac believes the Yankees feel they have done enough to justify that statement, and while they have done plenty this winter, there should be more, specifically in the rotation.

“It’s disappointing. I am frustrated with the Yankees,” C-Mac said. “The Yankees rotation is in flux…it can pan out and be great, or it can be a disaster. Both scenarios are equally plausible. That’s not what you want on a one-year team in a window with Gerrit Cole, the best pitcher in baseball, and Aaron Judge, the best hitter in baseball.

“This is a team for this season. And yet, as much as that’s obvious…the Yankees are falling short.”

C-Mac doesn’t want to diminish the Yanks adding one of the best bats in baseball in Juan Soto while getting another solid bat in Alex Verdugo, and a quality middle-of-the-rotation arm in Marcus Stroman. But with the likes of Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery still on the open market, there is a chance to really fortify the rotation, but despite Hal Steinbrenner’s comments last week, it doesn’t seem like there will be a real interest to capitalize on that opportunity.

“He’s $300 million into this team. That’s all in. He’s over the Steve Cohen luxury tax,” C-Mac said. “‘What more can you want?’ That’s how the Yankees feel…they feel like they are all in…they don’t believe they need to pay someone double to add to this team that they feel good about.”
