C-Mac: Series loss in Tampa actually had some positive takeaways for Yankees
While the vibes couldn’t be much lower for the Yankees right now, C-Mac says there were still several positive signs that came from their most recent series loss, dropping two of three to the Rays at the Trop.
“The bullpen was excellent in this series,” C-Mac said. “You’re starting to get some real answers. Tonkin comes in and gets a big double play. Weaver came in last night and got a big double play. You’ve seen now back-to-back performances from [Jake] Cousins that have looked pretty damn good. [Tim] Hill came in and had a great performance the night before. You’re starting to feel pretty damn good about the bullpen.”
The bullpen and its lack of ability to get strikeouts has been a major talking point ahead of the trade deadline, as has the suddenly scuffling offense, but C-Mac says there were signs in Tampa that things can be on the cusp of improving in that department as well.
“There was good at-bat after good at-bat last night. It was rally after rally,” C-Mac said. “It wasn’t good enough - I’m not giving them a participation trophy - but it’s better than what we’ve seen.”
The Yanks couldn’t break through despite generating several chances in Thursday’s series finale, going 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and leaving 10 men on base. Still, C-Mac says there is reason to not hang your heads after another loss.
“How about the Yankees have been the worst team in baseball for a month, and the Orioles haven’t been able to separate themselves?” C-Mac said.
“Hopefully Soto is turning out of it, and I can count three games in the last week where if Judge gives them anything, they have a great chance to win these games. So I’m gonna put away the ‘woe is me.’”
