The Yankees boast a number of big bats in their 2024 lineup, from Aaron Judge to Juan Soto and even Giancarlo Stanton, if he can stay healthy.
But BT says the argument can be made that the most important hitter in the Bombers lineup will be Anthony Volpe, who is heading into his sophomore season with heightened expectations after another solid spring where he leveled out his swing to fix what went wrong in his rookie campaign.
“I can make the case that he is,” BT said. “I know what [Judge and Soto] are gonna do. I don’t yet know what Volpe is gonna do.
“If Volpe matures into the type of hitter that most scouts think he’s gonna be…if he hits .260, what are his numbers? Forty steals? Thirty one home runs?”
Should Volpe take the next step in year two and be the player that kept the Yankees from going after big-name free agent shortstops, then BT says the outlook of the lineup totally changes, as Volpe could then move into the leadoff spot and form a hard-to-beat trio atop the order.
“If he takes that step and is that, night to night, you can rely on him, and you have Soto and Judge,” BT said. “Who is getting these guys out?”
