Carlos Rodon has pitched just 2.2 innings of playoff baseball across his eight-year career, and the desire to beef up that October resume factored into his decision to join the Yankees.
“I've always wanted more,” the lefty said when addressing his thin playoff workload, which came in two appearances with the White Sox in 2020 and 2021. “Winning has been at the top of my list as a player. As we know, it's the Yankee way."
Now, Rodon will be tasked with leading a stacked Yankees rotation through a deep October run, alongside Gerrit Cole and company, who still haven’t been able to get past the Astros since 2017. Rodon is ready for the challenge, is well aware of the expectations that come with putting on pinstripes, and knows that the goal is to win it all.
That’s what brought Rodon to the Yanks in the first place.
“Historic franchise. As a little kid living the dream, it’s kind of hard not to put on the pinstripes,” Rodon said. “So the I guess the dream is fulfilled, but there’s more to the story. I think my teammates would say the same. We would like to be World Series champions.
“I hope to win a lot of games here at Yankee Stadium.”
