Carlos Rodon is headed for testing on his back, which has been “barking,” according to Aaron Boone.

Rodon has been on the IL to start the season with a forearm strain that he said he would be pitching through had it been October, but with this news, BT is prepared for the worst.

“Let me tell you what that means: he’s screwed,” BT said.

“When you say a guy’s back is barking, and the guy had to shut down his bullpen and live pitching a week and a half ago because of the back issue, and now it’s further exasperated here, he’s got a real back issue.”

BT doesn’t believe this is an aging veteran waking up one morning with a stiff back and needing a day or two off. This feels more like a pitcher with injury history who is dealing with an ailment that will keep him off the mound for extended time, and further highlight that Brian Cashman may have made a mistake signing Rodon this past offseason.

“We’ve kind of glossed over what is becoming a glaring issue with Rodon,” BT said. “This is a $162 million problem.”
