Yankee fans will have to wait a bit longer for Carlos Rodon’s team debut.
Manager Aaron Boone told Talkin’ Yanks on Tuesday that the lefty is dealing with back tightness, which will delay his return from the IL for “at least a few days.” Rodon, who signed a $162 million deal this past offseason, hasn’t pitched yet this season due to a forearm strain.
Rodon told reporters after the injury that he would have pitched through it had it been later in the season or in the playoffs, and was something he pitched through last season. He was scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Sunday and live BP on Monday.'
"Rodon has back tightness. It’s kind of delayed his next live which was supposed to be yesterday/today," Boone said on his weekly Jomboy Media appearance. "So it’s probably going to be a few days...elbow-wise he’s doing great. We’ll see how the next couple days are there. But we’re getting there."
Rodon had a career year in San Francisco last season, but he has dealt with injuries earlier in his career, and the Yankees will have to hope that this is just an initial bump in the road, and not a return to injury struggles for the 30-year-old who is supposed to be a bonafide No. 2 behind Gerrit Cole.
