CC Sabathia stopped by the studio to talk baseball with Tiki and Tierney, who wanted his thoughts on the ghost runner sticking around for good in extra innings.
Sabathia’s response? He loves it.
“We don’t get paid for overtime,” CC laughed. “Let’s get this game over with.”
Of course, there were other factors that led the former Yankee lefty to side with keeping the so-called “Manfred Man” around for the long haul.
“Most of the time, whoever pitches those extra innings, a guy gets sent down,” CC said. “He gets penalized for that. Let’s get the game over with and keep our roster intact and not have a guy be penalized for pitching in extra innings.
“A lot of the times, the home team ends up winning the game anyway…it works out.”
As for the other rule changes set to take effect this season, CC is generally a fan of all of them, particularly the implementation of a pitch clock.
“I think it’s gonna help not so much with the time of the game, just speeding up and getting to the action,” CC said. “I think velocity is gonna drop and we’ll see more contact, and with the shift being gone, you’ll see more balls being put in play and you’ll see more action on the bases.”
