Yet another Yankee has been added to the COVID-19 IL.
Reliever Clay Holmes is the latest name to the now five players that the team has added to the COVID list since Aug. 1. Holmes has not recorded a positive test yet, but was experiencing symptoms prior to Wednesday’s game and was placed on the IL pending his test results. If they are negative, he can be activated right away.
Brooks Kriske was recalled from Triple-A to take Holmes’ spot.
Holmes was acquired in a trade with the Pirates just before the deadline, and has allowed just two earned runs in 8.1 innings of work since coming to New York. His loss depletes the team’s pitching staff even more, as Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery are still on the COVID-19 IL, and Domingo German, Aroldis Chapman, Corey Kluber and Luis Severino are all out with injuries.
