Hot mics at the Yankee game on Wednesday caught a fan yelling for the Yankees to fire Aaron Boone and replace him with franchise legend Don Mattingly, who is currently a part of the Blue Jays coaching staff following a prolonged managerial stint with the Marlins.

It led the Boomer and Gio crew to raise the question: could the Yankees bring in Mattingly to replace Boone?

Gio doesn’t see it happening.

“Don Mattingly is not going to be the manager of the Yankees. I cannot see that happening,” Gio said. “If I’m him, I don’t want that job. I’m big on that. the only guy who has been able to do that is John Elway as an executive. It’s not easy to do, man. That’s why I said the same thing about Mark Messier.”

Gio also added that Mattingly does not have a great managerial track record, whether it be with Miami or with the Dodgers. But Boomer says the Yankee icon was a victim of circumstance.

“He was managing for a terrible team on a bare budget,” Boomer said.

C-Lo was in studio when the question was posed, and he says, why not give it a shot?

“If they’re gonna make wholesale changes,” C-Lo said. “I think they would probably want to reach back to their roots.”
