Now that the Yankees have locked up the AL East and a first-round bye, the next eight games will provide no meaning towards October baseball.
That will give a chance for Aaron Boone to sort out tough roster decisions before the playoffs, but Boomer wonders if the week-plus of mainly meaningless baseball will sink the Yanks into a lull before it really matters.
“You gotta be careful about his malaise of knowing you won the division and these games don’t mean anything,” Boomer said. “At the end of the day, you don’t want to go into the playoffs playing poorly either.”
Gio isn’t sweating any potential malaise, and doesn’t see Boone taking anything too lightly after seeing how quickly things can turn for the worst, like they did for the Bombers back in August.
“You’ve got that rime to relax and get all your ducks in a row,” Gio said. “Aaron Boone knows how important it is to be playing good baseball heading into the postseason. I don’t think they get into a malaise and sit a lot of guys down. I think they’re careful about it and smart, but this isn’t gonna be a bunch of scrubs playing over the last few games.”
