The Yankees have the best record in baseball in May, and the team’s previously monumental deficit in the AL East has now shrunk down to 5.5 games.
Craig just wants to know if the praise for Aaron Boone will be as loud as the criticism was earlier in the season.
“Aaron Boone is the best manager in baseball,” Craig said. “Let’s just say it the way it is.
“The Yankees have the best record in baseball in the month of way. Why is that? Because steady as she goes, that’s why.”
Despite dealing with a plethora of issues, like injuries to key bats like Giancarlo Stanton, or weak bats like Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Aaron Hicks getting consistent at-bats, or the team searching for a consistent closer, Boone’s Yankees have managed to do more than just stay afloat, and Boone, who pulled off something similar in 2019, deserves his flowers.
“Say what you want about not winning World Series, but for a team that has been besieged by injuries…at some point, and I know you hate to do it, someone has to acknowledge that Aaron Boone is a damn good manager,” Craig said. “You have to acknowledge that he has his finger on the right pulse of the Yankees right now.”
