C-Mac: Did anyone have a better Labor Day weekend than Brian Cashman?

The Yankees swept the Astros for the first time in 10 years over the weekend, and C-Mac says nobody should feel better about the series sweep than the general manager.

“Coming from behind, young, athletic, running the bases, Jasson Dominguez hitting home runs,” C-Mac said. “Right now, watching these kids play, I can’t help but think of someone who is sitting around with his feet up thinking, ‘This is exactly what I needed.’ And that’s Brian Cashman.

“I honestly believe Hal Steinbrenner is finally conducting the trial of Brian Cashman…we have not seen a lot of guys from inside the organization come up yet. This is the first batch of players who have come through the Yankees system as currently constituted, and if you look at what they’re doing - Pereira got off to a slow start, but Volpe is turning it around, and Dominguez looks great. You could just see the confidence exuding from this kid.”

The Yankees have completely overhauled their lineup in what has been a lost season, fully committing to their youth movement with the promotions of Dominguez, Everson Pereira, Austin Wells, and Oswald Peraza. Dominguez has already hit two home runs, while Volpe has continued to improve in his rookie season. For C-Mac, the rise of these youngsters can be proof for Cashman that he has the organization heading in the right direction, even in the midst of a disastrous season.

“Right now, in the trial of Brian Cashman, he is able to say ‘Jasson Dominguez, exhibit A. Volpe, exhibit B,’” C-Mac said.
