DJ LeMahieu appears to be in typical form, picking up his second hit in as many at-bats on Saturday with an opposite field three-run home run to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead.
What followed LeMahieu’s home run wasn’t as normal.
After LeMahieu finished his trip around the bases, the Pirates filed into the dugout, walking off the field in what was the second inning of action.
Why? New spring training rules, in effect through the weekend, allow a defensive team to end an inning as soon as their pitcher reaches 20 pitches in the frame, which Pittsburgh’s JT Brubaker did.
So, a walk-off homer for LeMahieu…in the second inning. That’s baseball, Suzyn.
