Domingo German was rocked for the second straight time on Thursday night, and in an effort to salvage the bullpen, the righty was tasked with wearing it against the Mariners despite clearly not having his best stuff.
The result? German made Yankee history in the worst possible way.
German was knocked around for 10 runs (8 earned) over 3.1 innings of work, allowing a whopping four home runs to raise his season ERA to 5.10 after pitching to a 2.20 ERA om the month of May. According to Stathead’s Katie Sharp, German became the first pitcher in franchise history to have a span of facing fewer than 40 batters and allowing 17 or more runs.
German allowed seven runs in just two innings of work against the Red Sox last week, meaning he has surrendered 17 runs in his last 5.1 innings after allowing just 11 in his previous 41 innings.
