MLB Pipeline has begun rolling out its prospect rankings for each organization, and a Martian has risen to the top of the Yankees’ leaderboard.
The Yanks’ Top-30 rankings were released on Tuesday morning, and hyped teenager Jasson Dominguez is listed at No. 1 overall within the organization. Dominguez is still waiting to play in his first game in the Yankee system due to last season being washed by the COVID-19 pandemic, but his profile and comparisons to Mike Trout have him as the 32nd overall prospect in all of baseball.
Dominguez is still just 18 years old, and MLB Pipeline gives the switch-hitting outfielder an ETA of 2024 for when Yankees fans may finally get to see him in the Bronx.
Clarke Schmidt is ranked second overall, though he is currently sidelined with an extensor strain and questionable for Opening Day. The right-handed pitcher made his debut last season and is still in MLB’s top 100 rankings, coming in at 88th.
Rounding out the Yankees’ top three is Deivi Garcia, who is making the start for the Yanks in Tuesday’s spring training game against the Tigers, and is expected to compete for the fifth spot in the Yankee rotation.
Infielder Ezequiel Duran made the biggest jump in MLB Pipeline’s rankings, rising from 27th to 15th. The 21-year-old led the Class A Short Season New York-Penn League with 13 home runs in 2019. Pitcher Albert Abreu saw the biggest fall, dropping from 11th to 18th, and he has struggled in his two spring training appearances so far, allowing five runs on five hits in 1.2 innings.
