Brian Cashman, Gerrit Cole, and Aaron Boone spoke with reporters on Thursday, and all made it clear that talk is cheap in 2024.
After the disastrous season the Yankees had in 2023, actions will have to prove that this team is different.
Still, there were the typical comments about players looking fantastic after their offseason work, and Sal doesn’t want to hear any of it, declaring that the Yankees have been too much about talk in recent years.
“They’ve kind of addressed the fact that ‘we can say whatever we think we are, but we have to go out there and do it.’ That’s where I’m at with this Yankee team,” Sal said.
“Yeah, it’s great you got Soto and Judge, and you think everyone is gonna be better this year. LeMahieu looks great, Stanton looks great, Rodon is hitting 97. Yeah, so everything is great. I’ve heard this before…go do it. I actually want to see it.”
The Yankees have several injury question marks on their roster, so Sal isn’t putting much weight on Cashman or Boone raving about how the likes of LeMahieu, Stanton, or Rodon look in the first week of spring training. He wants to see it through a 162-game season.
“I want to see you get to the World Series for the first time since 2009,” Sal said. “I want to see you guys stay healthy and actually produce. I want to see it. Enough talking.”
