Juan Soto is Bronx bound, and he is bringing his trademark Soto Shuffle with him.
For nearly his entire decorated career, any time Soto takes a close pitch for a ball, he widens his base, stares at the pitcher, and rocks back and forth, which Evan admits infuriated him as a Mets fan while Soto was magnificently working deep counts with the NL East rival Nationals.
Now, Evan wonders if it will be embraced in the Bronx.
“We all think that’s funny and humorous and entertaining, but is it Yankee-like?” Evan said. “When he does his little shuffle to Justin Verlander on Opening Day in Houston.”
There is likely a much higher chance of the Soto Shuffle being celebrated in New York rather than loathed, especially when it is benefiting a fan’s own team, unlike when Evan watched Soto work Mets pitchers before burning them.
“I said so many bad words about Juan Soto over the years,” Evan said. “I can’t even get into it.”
Morash is confident that the shuffle will catch on like wildfire, and other fans will come to hate Yankee fans for how much they love Soto’s shimmy.
“It will be the most mimicked - not mocked - mimicked move of celebration since the Victor Cruz salsa in this town,” Morash said.
