Evan: Anthony Rizzo can no longer hit behind Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres should instead

With a runner on first and two outs in the bottom of the third, Rays starter Tyler Glasnow walked Aaron Judge on four pitches before easily striking out the struggling Anthony Rizzo to end the inning.

Glasnow seemed to deliberately put Judge on base, and put a runner into scoring position, to face Rizzo, which further reinforced to Evan that Rizzo cannot be Judge’s protection anymore.

“You cannot stick Anthony Rizzo behind Aaron Judge,” Evan said. “That’s gonna happen the rest of the year.”

Tiki countered that the Yankees don’t have many hitters capable of protecting Judge at this point, given the team’s dreadful offensive numbers since Judge’s toe injury in early June, but Evan has a solution: bat Judge leadoff, and behind him as protection…

“Gleyber Torres,” Evan said. “It’s not a perfect answer, but that’s my answer.

“If you’re gonna walk my leadoff hitter, fine, I’ll get my leadoff man on.”
