The Yankees and Major League Baseball announced Thursday that Monday’s game against the Marlins has been moved from an afternoon start to 6:05, noting “reconsidering” playing through the solar eclipse that should be viewable in New York City on Monday afternoon.
The Yanks had a promo planned where they would give out free shirts to fans to take in the eclipse during the game, but that will no longer happen, and Evan wasn’t happy about it.
Evan ripped MLB and Rob Manfred for knowing the possible delays and darkness that could come with the eclipse, but waiting until less than a week before the game to change the time.
“That’s OK, but why do you decide that now, five days before the game? If I’m the Yankees, I’m pissed off,” Evan said. “That’s all fans are to MLB and NFL. We’re props. They don’t give a rat’s ass. But it’s not fair to the customer to tell them a start time, and five days before, change it.”
Evan knows there were potential challenges for the few minutes that the total eclipse would happen, especially while playing a baseball game, but to wait until the last minute to decide that those factors mean the game time should be changed, that wasn’t acceptable.
“You knew, Rob, there was a solar eclipse,” Evan said. “The Yankees made a big deal about it. they were giving out t-shirts…and you, five days before, say ‘forget it’ and change your minds?
“They should have known this…they’re so clueless.”
