Evan sent some waves that made their way to Tampa on Monday, after he suggested that the Rays may be cheating during their historic start to the season.

Evan pointed out the vast discrepancies between the back of the baseball cards of the Rays hitters in comparison to their 2023 outputs, and suggested that there may be foul play involved. Tampa fans did not care for the suggestion, but Evan stood by it on Tuesday.

“I'm just being honest about my curiosities about the Rays,” Evan said. “I mean, I'm just calling it like it is. I didn't realize the entire city of Tampa would be offended.

“Look at all those crappy players and how they're all having amazing years. They have a lot of guys on their team that all of a sudden are putting up crazy numbers.”

If fans are up in arms about the suggestion that multiple players on the Rays having career years, like Taylor Walls, Christian Bethancourt, Harold Ramirez, and Josh Lowe all carrying OPS+ stats over 125, then Evan says they’re not bothering to at least acknowledge the fact that those kind of numbers are peculiar.

“I'm just giving you my opinion that watching the baseball team over those three days, and I'll watch them again next week, and looking at the numbers and looking at the guys on the roster, and they do have some good young players,” Evan said. “I'm not knocking [Shane] McClanahan, who is one of the best pitchers in the league. I know how good he is and how good some of the arms out of the bullpen are.

“I like Wander Franco, but there's a lot of examples. A lot of these, all at the same time. Like Chad Mottola is the greatest hitting coach of all time. I find that strange”
