Evan: Evidence is mounting that Carlos Rodon can't handle New York
After Carlos Rodon’s latest clunker on Tuesday night, Evan says he has had an epiphany about the $162 million lefty.
Evan is convinced that Rodon is the latest player that simply cannot handle New York.
“I have come to a realization that I did not want to come to. July 9, 2024 was the night I realized that Carlos Rodon cannot pitch in New York City,” Evan said. “He can’t pitch here.
“This is Joey Gallo. There’s a long list of guys who just can’t play here.”
Tiki countered that Rodon settled in after his disastrous first inning on Tuesday, but Evan says that only furthers his point that the southpaw isn’t cut out for the bright lights of the Big Apple.
“Or, the pressure is off,” Evan said. “Or, he’s buried his team down 4-1 and it’s ‘Oh gee, I can relax.’
“He has been automatically struggling in shutdown innings. In the innings where it’s been a little more important, because your team either just gave you a run…or your team just gave you a lead.”
Evan says Rodon isn’t the first, and certainly won’t be the last player to come to New York and realize that they can’t make it in this spotlight. But it is clear to him that Rodon is crumbling under the pressure of the pinstripes.
“We saw him last night losing his cool,” Evan said. “We saw him earlier this year and last year acting like a giant baby when Aaron Boone wants to take him out of a game. We saw him blowing a kiss to Yankee fans in Anaheim a year ago. We saw him crying in the dugout!”
