Evan: Yankees back to showing makings of a team that can win it all

Evan understood the complaints from Yankee fans, to an extent, after their frustrating 12-inning loss to the Guardians on Tuesday night, which was preceded by a series loss to the mediocre Tigers.

But fast forward 24 hours, and the Yanks have collected consecutive inspiring victories that have including shutdown starting pitching performances, improved bullpen work, and continued dominance from Aaron Judge.

Suddenly, Evan says Yankee fans should be able to see the makings of a team that can make this season a memorable one.

“We see Aaron Judge continue to show you he’s Barry Bonds without the steroids,” Evan said. “Anthony Volpe has awoken. Gleyber Torres continues to hit the ball well. Giancarlo Stanton reminds you that he’s the protection that’s needed, and the Yankees spank a team that is supposed to be a top-tier team.

“After watching the last two games, why wouldn’t you think you’re king of the world?”

Much of the Yankees season, especially since June, has been about fans worrying about another early playoff exit due to warts in the bullpen or in the lineup around Judge and Juan Soto. But the last two games against Cleveland were the kind of wins that should remind fans that, when the Yankees are right, they are World Series material.

“If this team is gonna go on a deep playoff run - which they’re capable of - this is how they’re gonna do it,” Evan said. “They have a player that you cannot pitch to…over the last day and a half, we’ve seen all the things that make you think this team can win it all.”
