Evan: Yankees are 'only right answer' to which New York team will celebrate next title

Evan began Wednesday's show trying to picture which New York team could finally become the next team to parade down the Canyon of Heroes in celebration of a championship.

And he painfully admitted that there was one team that would be the likeliest to celebrate the city’s next title.

“There’s only one right answer, and it pains me to say it,” Evan said. “That answer is your New York Yankees.

“You know what matters to me? Have you done it before…a part of it is the franchise. I’ve seen it in my lifetime, I’ve seen them do it a ton of times, and they’ve done it with different incarnations, because I think that ’09 team was different than the one that did it in ’96-00. So do you have someone in that building who has done it? The Yankees have a general manager who has done it, as much as you guys all seem to hate him. You’ve got a first baseman that’s done it.”

Tiki countered with the Knicks, noting the nature of basketball and the way the landscape of the entire league changes after acquiring a star, and the Knicks already have a competitive roster that would be put over the top if a star finally came to town.

“I think there are teams in the way of the Yankees,” Tiki said. “We’re not just talking about winning a conference and going to their respective championships…I think about the Yankees, and the Astros jump to mind, the Orioles jump to mind…who knows what they’re gonna end up doing in the next couple of years? Hell, you have to worry about the Dodgers, who just spent a billion dollars to get better.

“To me, the only one that jumped to the top of my mind is the Knicks.”

Evan, laughing like a hyena at the mention of the Knicks being the next team to win a championship for New York, said the Knicks never even entered his mind.

“My debate came down to two teams, and the Knicks weren’t one of them,” Evan said. “It was the New York Rangers.”
