Evan is starting to hear a lot of Yankee fans calling into the FAN and voicing their confidence in acquiring the big names of the offseason, and Evan has a warning for those fans.
The Yankees did not suddenly turn back into the team that spends like it is the 2009 offseason.
“I’m worried there are way too many Yankee fans that have an expectation for this offseason that I don’t think will be matched,” Evan said. “I don’t know where this has come from. Maybe it’s rumors - and I’m warning you, don’t pay attention to every freaking rumor. Being involved in a player doesn’t mean you’re gonna get the player - I guess it’s believing everything you see. ‘The Yankees are linked to Yamamoto, we’re gonna get him. The Yankees are linked to Bellinger, we’re gonna get him.’”
Citing a caller on the BT and Sal show, who assumed Juan Soto and Yoshinobu Yamamoto were Bronx bound, Evan wanted Yankee fans to make sure their expectations were tempered, so the disappointment wouldn’t be as intense.
“It represents a lot of Yankee fans who have very high expectations for this offseason,” Evan said. “You want to set the bar low. What I’m sensing from Yankee fans…is that your bar is insanely high.
“Could the Yankees get Juan Soto? They could, I think they will. Could they get Yamamoto? Sure. But there seems to be this belief that you’re going to. What worries me for my friends that are Yankees fans is that you’re gonna be incredibly disappointed…just because you’re linked to a guy, that doesn’t mean anything.”
