Josh Donaldson helped rescue the Yankees from another miserable loss on Wednesday night with a thrilling walk-off grand slam, and before the jubilation of Donaldson’s home run, there were frustrations boiling over in the Bronx.
With the Yanks losing in the 10th inning after another Aroldis Chapman meltdown, fans began chanting “Fire Boone,” with many at Yankee Stadium growing frustrated with manager Aaron Boone’s tenure, which included back-to-back 100-win seasons to begin his reign, but has never made it as far as the Yanks did in 2017 just before he took over.
Now, after a historic start to the season, the Yanks have been struggling badly, putting together one of the worst records in baseball since the All-Star break, though perhaps Donaldson’s heroics can inject new life into the clubhouse and get the team back on track.
If it doesn’t, then there were likely be more venom geared towards Boone down the stretch of the season.
