A change of scenery has worked wonders for former Yankee Joey Gallo to start the 2023 season.

Gallo, a two-time All-Star who was traded from New York after a disastrous tenure in pinstripes, smacked his third home run of the season in a blowout win over the Marlins on Monday, just one day after hitting two bombs in a win over the Royals. In four games played, Gallo has four hits in 13 at-bats, with three of those hits coming by way of the long ball.

Gallo posted a miserable .660 OPS in parts of two seasons with the Yanks, before being dealt to the Dodgers before last year’s trade deadline. He didn’t fare much better in Los Angeles, but seems to feel right at home to start his tenure in Minnesota.

Meanwhile, Aroldis Chapman’s first appearance with the Royals couldn’t have gone much better, as he struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning on Saturday, reaching 103 mph on the radar gun.
