Clint Frazier’s legendary bat speed appears to be in midseason form.
The Yankees’ likely Opening Day left fielder turned on an 85 mph slider in the sixth inning of Saturday’s spring training game against the Pirates, and sent a deep home run into the parking lot beyond the left field wall for his first homer of the spring.
Frazier also worked a walk in Saturday’s 3-2 loss. The home run was his second hit of the spring so far.
Teammate Jameson Taillon had the game on during his Zoom call with reporters, and had to stop when he saw the ball leave Frazier's bat.
"That was a bomb," Taillon said.
Aaron Boone said before spring training games began that Frazier would be the team’s starting left fielder, with Brett Gardner sliding into a backup role. Frazier has played in exactly 162 career games so far, and posted a career-best .905 OPS last season.
