With Luis Severino heading for an MRI to look into his shoulder tightness that kept him out of Friday’s rehab start, the Yankees need immediate help to their depleted pitching staff.

They could have some key reinforcements this week in Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery.

Manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Saturday that both starters’ bullpen session went well on Friday, and the two are on track to make starts next week after spending time on the COVID-19 IL.

Additionally, Corey Kluber “bounced back well” from his rehab start with Double-A Somerset and will make another on Tuesday as he works his way back from a shoulder injury that he suffered in May.

Gary Sanchez is with Kluber in Double-A and taking batting practice, as he works his way back from the COVID-19 IL. Anthony Rizzo is “feeling a lot better” after dealing with COVID himself, and will have a cardiac workup on Monday. If all goes well, he could resume baseball activities that day.
