The Yankees can reportedly let out a massive sigh of relief.
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Gerrit Cole’s in-person visit with Dr.
Neal ElAttrache confirmed that the Yankee ace does not have a torn UCL, and Tommy John surgery is not needed at this time.
The recommended recovery is rest, rehab, and “non-surgical treatments,” meaning the originally reported timeline of 1-2 months remains.
With that in mind, Cole could be back in late May or early June.
This comes as good news for the Yankees, who wanted a closer look at Cole’s elbow as his season hung in the balance. For now, it appears Cole’s season is not over, and the Bombers will have the reigning Cy Young winner back at some point.
