C-Mac: Giancarlo Stanton not running full speed creates big outfield problem for Yankees

Giancarlo Stanton’s baserunning was under the microscope on Sunday, as he was seemingly jogging around third on what would be a close play at the plate.

Some ripped Stanton for a lack of hustle, while C-Mac is convinced that Stanton was intentionally holding back to avoid another baserunning injury.

“I’m telling you, that is not top speed,” C-Mac said. “There is no way that’s Stanton’s top speed. He is not running full speed on purpose. The guy pulled a hamstring and was out two months decelerating into second base.”

Which leads to a bigger problem for C-Mac: Stanton can’t be moving like that while playing the outfield.

“It scares me that they put him in the outfield,” C-Mac said. “We say he needs to play the outfield and he’s better, look at his numbers, and it’s all true, but in a big spot, is he not running full speed? That’s kind of important.

“Ohtani hit that triple down the line, you didn’t even see Stanton in the TV picture for three minutes. Ohtani could have rounded the bases, took batting practice, and threw a bullpen by the time that ball was picked up.”
