Giancarlo Stanton to make season debut Monday night: Reports

Giancarlo Stanton is reportedly making his season debut on Monday night.

According to multiple reports, the Yankee slugger is set to be the DH in the starting lineup for the Bombers’ series opener against the Angels in the Bronx, marking Stanton’s long road back from a bout with tennis elbows that he has been battling since the end of last season.

Stanton had been on a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset and had initially been hoped to be set for a return in Boston against the Red Sox over the weekend, but ultimately, he was given some more tune-up at-bats in the minors before making his debut.

The Yankees already had an opening on the 40-man roster, so no corresponding move will be necessary once Stanton is officially activated.

Stanton will face off against Angels starter Jose Soriano in his first game action since the 2024 World Series.

The 35-year-old has a long list of injuries that have plagued him since joining the Yankees, but this was the first upper-body issue that caused him to miss significant time. The injury shut him down in spring training and he received PRP injections afterward before making his slow progression back to the lineup.

Stanton hit .233 with 27 home runs last season and was a monster once again in the playoffs, earning ALCS MVP in the process while smacking seven home runs in the Yankees’ first run to a World Series since 2009.
