Gio: Firing of Dillon Lawson nothing more than 'sacrificial lamb' for Yankees

Boomer and Gio were back on the air Monday morning, just in time to react to the Yankees firing hitting coach Dillon Lawson on Sunday evening.

Boomer believed a change of coaches could bring a much-needed change of approach to the Yankee lineup, while Gio was far less convinced that the change in coaches would bring about any change at all.

“Who’s the best pitcher or hitter you’ve ever seen in your life?” Gio said. “Who was their pitching or hitting coach? Tell me who the best hitting coach of all time is. Does anybody have that answer?

“The point is that none of these guys matter.”

Simply put, Gio believes the firing of Lawson was nothing more than a scapegoat after the fanbase was clamoring for major changes.

“It’s just silly. It’s silly…the Mets made fun of a fake hitting coach last year,” Gio said. “I think this is one of those things where Yankee fans are calling for a lot of stuff…and Brian Cashman was like ‘OK, sacrificial lamb, here’s something going into the break to make it seem like we care.’”
