The Yankees and their fans are on a high after the Bombers won Game 1 of the ALDS Tuesday night…and now have to wait until Thursday, or perhaps later, to play Game 2 at Yankee Stadium.
And Gio just isn’t feeling that.
“I just wish they were playing tonight. I don’t understand the schedule at all…this is baseball!” Gio exhorted. “The Yankees had five days off prior to this. Why are you not playing back-to-back games?”
When Boomer wondered if it was to give Cleveland (and/or any other Wild Cards) a rest, Gio wasn’t having it.
"They wrapped their series up in two (games)," Gio said, "so they had two days off prior!"
That’s when The Booms mentioned the forecast for Thursday – rain most of the afternoon and evening, heavy at times – that could push Game 2 until Friday…meaning, potentially, four games in four days, with two travel days from the Bronx to Cleveland and back.
“Then you might have two days off between games and having to travel and going back-to-back that way,” Gio said.
Of course, the schedule is a function of the start of the season being delayed a week and forcing the regular season to go three days longer than scheduled, which has the AL on a wonky schedule early on to prevent all four Division Series from being completely coterminous.
Doesn’t make it any less silly to Gio.
“It’s silly, and it doesn’t make any sense.”
