Isiah Kiner-Falefa pounded out another four hits in Tuesday night’s win over the Mariners, and is batting .382 over his last 11 games.
Is this a blip on the radar, or has the typically light-hitting Yankee finally found his groove after an underwhelming debut season in New York?
“Maybe he’s found himself,” Gio said. “He had a good year before he came here last year.”
Kiner-Falefa was decent before being traded to the Yankees, averaging a .677 OPS over his last two seasons with the Rangers, but he was benched in last year’s postseason after his hitting struggles bled out into the field down the stretch of the season. Now, as he continues to settle into an outfield role, Kiner-Falefa is providing plenty with the bat as well of late.
Kiner-Falefa’s sudden ascent at the plate led one caller to wonder if the Yankees should try and trade him while his value is higher, but right now, Gio would prefer to see if Kiner-Falefa can keep it going.
“I wouldn’t look to deal him right away,” Gio said. “Right now, what he’s doing is sort of invaluable for them.”
