Gio: Jazz Chisholm may be 'overrated,' but Yankees had to 'shake things up'
The Yankees have added Jazz Chisholm to their lineup, a player that reports indicated gave the Yanks pause because of fit and personality concerns before the deal was made.
Gio says the Yanks likely looked past those concerns because of the all-in nature of 2024, though he isn’t sure how much of an impact the 2022 All-Star will have on the team.
“This Chisholm move is something that I don’t believe they would have done if it wasn’t an all-in year. I think the Marlins were done with him,” Gio said. “He is someone that was built on a reputation early on. He sort of rode that for a while and has not played great baseball the last couple of years, he was on the cover of MLB The Show and he just sort of has been overrated in a way.
“And then you hear some of the rumblings about him being like a kind of a wacky clubhouse guy, and then he poured that Gatorade on that female reporter and it seemed like the Marlins were done with him. It doesn't feel like a guy that Brian Cashman would bring in mid-season.
“They needed someone different with an edge to shake things up.”
