Gio declared that Brian Cashman would be “absolutely stupid” to sign Marcus Stroman, and Cashman reportedly did just that hours later.
So, unsurprisingly, Gio didn’t seem to be in favor of the move.
“The fact that he is back in our world just disgusts me,” Gio said. “Hopefully he’s matured and grown up since the last time he was here.
I doubt it.
“Just so you know. If you don’t like Marcus Stroman and the way he pitches, you are a racist. Just so you know, because that’s what Marcus Stroman believes. It has nothing to do with his personality, nothing to do with his sensitivity on social media. Just so everybody knows going into this thing.
Be prepared, because that’s what he does.”
Gio was thrilled to have Stroman on the Mets in 2019 as a Bedford native, but he soured on him in 2021 due to Stroman’s social media activity and his role in the infamous thumbs down initiative from the Mets players. So he isn’t high on the idea of Stroman being back in New York.
“He could be fine for them on the field,” Gio said. “I just think he’s a bad guy. Don’t like him.”
