Gio remembers being duped by ticket scalper before game seven of 2003 ALCS

The days of scalping tickets outside of stadiums have diminished greatly in the digital era, as mobile tickets have replaced the nostalgic ticket stubs, but Gio and Jerry spent part of Monday’s show looking back on when they were duped by ticket scalpers during some high-profile events.

Jerry’s happened way back in 1995, when he and his friends went to Atlanta to see the Cowboys take on the Falcons during Deion Sanders’ first season with Dallas, and during that trip, Jerry decided to go catch the Braves in the World Series at Fulton County Stadium.

“Couldn’t get in,” Jerry said. “Ended up in the Braves security room. I was told ‘no can do,’ spent $100 on a ticket. Couldn’t get in. ended up in an Irish bar in Buckhead, had a great time, drank way too much, got a cab and said ‘I got $20. Can you get me to my hotel?’

“As soon as they saw the ticket, they were like ‘I’m sorry to tell you, we know about this guy.’ And they haven’t been able to get him.”

Gio’s story was arguably even more tragic, as he was duped outside Yankee Stadium after thinking he was about to get into one of the most memorable games in Yankee history.

“I bought a fake ticket to the Aaron Boone game,” Gio said. “Two hundred and fifty bucks. Terrible.

“I remember buying the thing, I inspected it, and remember the back of the ticket would have all the stuff and the disclaimers? I was like ‘Oh, this has to be real.’ But I was in a dark alley somewhere in the Bronx, but the second I came out into the light, this ticket decided to just disintegrate in my hands. It just fell apart, and the more I had it in my hand, I was like ‘This isn’t real.’”
