Gio: Steroid era 'lessened' impact of what Aaron Judge is doing right now
Aaron Judge was at it again on Wednesday night, crushing two home runs to get to 47 on the year, and putting him on pace to finish with 60 for the season, which would be his second 60-homer season in three years.
The numbers for Judge are ridiculous, but Gio can’t help but wonder how much more the Yankee slugger would be dominating the sporting spotlight if he wasn’t preceded by record-breaking home run hitters who turned out to be steroid users.
“The steroid era has lessened the impact of what Aaron Judge is doing right now because of the stuff we saw then,” Gio said.
“We saw Barry Bonds hit over 70. We saw all these guys do all this stuff. It’s a big deal, but he’s not getting the attention that he should. This guy could be having one of the best seasons of all time! Think about 2022 and this year. If the Barry Bonds/Mark McGwire/Sammy Sosa never happened, and you had Aaron Judge doing this , clean, in a Yankee uniform, that would have been so much bigger than what 1998 was. That saved baseball? This would have reignited baseball too!”
