Gio Urshela is not in the Yankee lineup for Wednesday night’s game against the Royals, but manager Aaron Boone is hopeful his absence won’t stretch beyond that.
The Yankee manager told reporters on Wednesday that Urshela is dealing with a sore shin after being hit by a pitch late in Tuesday night’s loss, and is receiving treatment but could be an option in a pinch hitter role Wednesday night.
“He had X-rays, which were negative,” Boone said. “He’s pretty sore today still, a little bit of swelling in there. we’ll see if he’s available later in the game for some kind of role.”
Urshela missed time earlier in the year with a knee injury but is turning in another solid season for the Yanks, batting .273 with nine home runs and a .759 OPS. DJ LeMahieu is playing third in his place on Wednesday, with Luke Voit across the diamond at first base.
“Hopefully it’s not something that keeps him down too much, but at this point day-to-day,” Boone said.
