Gio: What is 'tipping point' for this Yankees leadership group?
After the Yankees’ back-breaking loss to the Orioles on Sunday, a caller declared to Boomer and Gio that the leadership atop the organization needs to change in order to get the franchise back into true World Series contention.
The trio of Hal Steinbrenner, Brian Cashman, and Aaron Boone are in year seven of their quest to get to a World Series after Joe Girardi’s group came one win short in 2017, and they have not gotten as close since.
Gio agrees that it has been time to shake things up, but based on how ownership and the front office reacts to how recent seasons have finished, he’ll believe big changes are coming when he actually sees them.
“I have been saying that the last couple years. I just wonder what the tipping point is,” Gio said. “Is it not making the playoffs? Having such a bad second half that they don’t even get a Wild Card? Is it getting embarrassed in the postseason? Is there something where they say, ‘OK, that’s enough. This is not working. We’re good, but we’re not good enough.’ Because that has not been the case.
“The Yankees look at their seasons and their finishes a hell of a lot different than the fanbase does.”
